The first edition of the International School took place between July 16 and 21, 2017. The opening conference was given by Angela Davis to an audience of 500 people. At the time, the talk was broadcast live over the internet, which increased the number of people who could attend. In addition, the closing activity with Brazilian black activists, was also open to the public – a format repeated in the second and third edition. In the first edition, we had the participation of 26 foreign students and 25 Brazilian students, among activists and researchers.
Between August 5 and 11, 2018, the second edition of the International School of Feminist Black Decolonial Thought was held. The opening conference was given by Professors Kimberlé Creshaw (UCLA), attended by about 500 people. This time, there was no live broadcast due to restrictions imposed by the electoral law. In this edition we gathered 60 people, 25 foreign and 35 Brazilian, from different states of the federation. Among the students there were people from a variety of Brazilian black feminist organizations, including, the Odara Institute (Bahia), Casa das Pretas (Rio de Janeiro), SOSCORPO (Recife), Pretas Candangas (Brasília), Abayomi – Black Women Collective from Paraíba, Nzinga – Minas Gerais, Coletivo Brejo (Salvador), Black Women Network (Paraná), Candace – Lesbian Collective, CONAQ (National Coordination of Black Quilombola Rural Communities), Ayabás – Black Woman Institute (Piauí), as well as leaders of social movements of the local community, students and researchers in the area of black feminism in the decolonial perspective of several countries, among them the United States, England, Canada and Denmark. The International School has played a decisive role in creating links for the establishment of an international decolonial black feminism network, especially considering the historical context of resistance of the black population in the diaspora.
In 2019 the third edition of the International School of Black Feminist Thought Decolonial, took place between July 28 and August 2. The opening conference was given by Professor Conceição Evaristo spoke to an audience of 500 people. At the time, the talk was broadcast live over the internet, which increased the number of people who could attend. In the third edition, we had the participation of 45 foreign students and 25 Brazilian students, among activists and researchers.
