Barcelona Agreements
- The Barcelona Decolonizing Knowledge and Power Institute brings together people from all walks of life and from different places throughout the world. With that, it is structured on a respect towards difference. Respect for everyone who participates in the Institute is tantamount for the successful completion of the full week seminar.
- The full week seminar is built on a lecture intensive format. Please make note of this approach. Instructors have prepared a series of lectures for the participants. As such, they should be shown the utmost attention and respect.
- Dialogue is an important part of a successful Institute. We ask that all participants be attentive to spurring and facilitating dialogues not only in lecture but also during workshops and in more informal settings. Dialogue here also means respect towards different points of view even when in disagreement.
- Listening is a crucial part of engaging difference. Since our cohort of participants come from many walks of life, we ask that participants practice active listening as a way of beginning any dialogue with each other and with the instructors/facilitators.
- We ask that participants come expecting others to have the best intent in their words and actions. If after practicing dialogue and listening there are still issues individually or within the cohort, please bring these issues to the site coordinator.
- We ask that all participants practice humility and patience. We each work under different calendars and with different levels of understanding of the material. With that said, we ask that humility and patience be practiced as a way of building collective understanding throughout the intense week.
